Commonwealth Baton Route Confirmed

As we had previously reported, our very own Ross McWilliams will be a baton bearer for the Commonwealth Games. We are now pleased to confirm the route that he will run so we can get the whole club out to show our support to a local hero.

Ross will be carrying the baton along Uddingston Main Street on the afternoon of Sunday, 22 June. He will be handed the baton at lamppost R22 which is just before Pir Palace and he will run to Bellshill Road, so will finish at the Cross and pass the baton on to the next person. He will then be available for a short time for photos & autographs.

The relay will start at the Redstones and he should get the baton around 4.45 but best to make it there before 4.30 just to be on the safe side and to make sure that everyone gets a good spot.

It would be brilliant if everyone wore their Uddingston Club tops to support Ross and the club as there might be TV cameras and photographers.

Parking will be available at the club so please feel free to pop in and say hi!

Camp Ninja Advertising Opportunity For Local Business's

As we previously reported, Uddingston Cricket and sports club will be a camping base for up to 700 fans per night  attending the commonwealth games in July.

This will bring some welcome revenue in to the club and also the community as our vistors look for places to eat and socialise etc.

We will be providing a brochure for all the visitors and we have the opportunity for your business to advertise and promote your services.

For further information and to discuss rates please contact club Convenor Emma Kirk on 07775325880.

Adverts are limited and will be sold on a first come first served basis.

Ninjas are coming to Uddingston

The Board of Uddingston Cricket and Sports Club, would like to announce that they have agreed to
enter into a partnership agreement with Camping Ninja to allow their grounds and clubhouse to be
used by volunteers, contractors and families attending the Commonwealth Games during the 21st

July to 3rd August 2014.

This agreement will see up to 700 campers use the club grounds and facilities as a base while they
are in Glasgow for the games, which will not only provide much needed revenue to the club but will
also bring an influx of visitors to Uddingston over the two weeks who we are sure will utilise our
local facilities thoroughly.

This decision to allow our grounds to be used has not been taken lightly by the Board of UC&SC
and via detailed discussions with various parties including local councillors, Police Scotland, Fire
Scotland, South Lanarkshire Council planning, licensing & environmental health departments we
have worked very closely with Camping Ninja to gain the required comfort that the site will be run
in a very professional manner with little impact on our neighbours and the local community.

Camping Ninja will effectively take over the running of UC&SC grounds from Monday 21st July
until Sunday 3rd August and will have full time staff, stewards and Security on site at all times who
will all work in conjunction with the clubs own staff and board.

Although the clubhouse will remain open to members it will be expected to be busy with campers
and sport will be limited during the two weeks therefore we are hoping members and the
community of Uddingston will all work together to welcome our visitors and in turn show them true
Scottish hospitality.

Camping Ninja themselves have considerable experience in running campsites at World Class
Sporting Events and during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games they successfully hosted 13
urban campsites across London and Weymouth all at community sports clubs similar to ours and
were praised for the professional manner in which they operated the sites in partnership with the
clubs, local residents and councils to ensure optimum safety and a fantastic camping experience
for all. The majority of campers were families with games tickets, official volunteers and contractors
and the same groups are to be camping at the games again this summer. This is not a “festival
style” campsite but a relaxed friendly campsite where we expect campers to be off site exploring
Glasgow and Scotland for the majority of their stay. There will be no music, no stages, no extra
bars etc. These are simple low impact campsites.

To allow any questions to be raised or concerns to be aired the club will be holding an open day at
the clubhouse on Sunday 15th June from 12:30 to 6pm with all interested parties welcome to attend
and ask any questions they may have or just to receive a general update from UC&SC.

Should any member wish to find out more about the plans prior to the open day or wish to become
involved as a helper please contact our Club President Allan McGill at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
